HIT Consults is a team of Nigerian specialists in the diaspora, taking advantage of an exciting era free from boundaries to provide a proactive, efficient, and effective process to aid in the prevention and treatment of cancer in Africa.


  • Haematologist & CEO

    Dr. Essem is a Consultant Haematologist and CEO of HIT Consults.

    She trained in Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife and did her postgraduate training in Ireland and Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

    During this time, she also completed a Masters in Molecular Medicine from Trinity College Dublin.

    She is a Fellow of Royal college of Pathologist, Member of the Royal College of Physicians Edinburgh, a fellow of the Higher Education Academy, she also has a Post graduate qualification in Medical Education. She stuck to her roots by completing a Diploma in Tropical Medicine from the Royal college of Surgeons in Dublin.

    She pioneers a new concept of delivering health care in this fast paced and borderless world electronically. In order to make an impact in developing countries by channelling skills from abroad through home-grown professionals in diaspora and more who have mainly volunteered.

    Making an impact by tapping into the huge data base of indigenous professional knowledge to improve the health outcome in these countries and support local professionals. Without the professionals ever needing to leave their homes or work.

    Making an impact through expert opinion, been part of Multidisciplinary teams in tertiary Hospitals in developing countries. Assisting in education, campaigns and awareness programmes

    Her interests include malignant Haematology, especially Myeloma and Myeloid malignancies. After her training in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, She underwent a senior fellowship working in Cambridge University Hospital and part of an impressive team of doctors in Bone marrow transplant and new therapy for treating cancer; CAR-T cell therapy.

    She continues to work as a Consultant Haematologist in one of the biggest and most culturally diverse hospitals in NHS England.

    She has an outstanding personality and wishes to serve her community by improving cancer care.

Dr. Bassey Porbemi-Fumidoh

  • Gynaecologist & Director

    Dr. Porbemi-Fumidoh is a Director in HIT consults.

    She trained in Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife and is a Fellow of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of the West Africa college of Surgeons.

    She is a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist in Federal Medical Centre Yenagoa, Bayelsa state.

    She is the current consultant in-charge of Federal Medical Centre, Otuoke Outreach, Bayelsa State, Nigeria.

    Her special interests include infectious diseases where she is the clinical lead in for the Obstetrics and Gynaecology department in her Hospital and has been a front liner in the battle against Covid- 19 in FMC Yenagoa.

    She is also interested in the role infectious diseases play in increasing cancer risk.

    She is keen on promoting women’s health and this interest reflects on her position in HIT Consults as she is determined to reduce the role of infectious diseases like HPV in cervical cancer and other viruses like hepatitis and HIV in all cancers.

    She is part of the HIT consults cancer screening programme and is eager to reduce cancer risks especially in women. Hence attended many workshops and conferences in cervical screening and prevention.

    She is pioneering cancer screening health education, prevention and early detection through targeted cancer screening protocols using HITs adapted algorithm based on age, history and prevalence of cancer in Nigeria to educate and promote relevant, targeted cancer screening schedule for Nigeria population.

    She is HIT Consults in-house Director, supporting local partnership, education and administration for the organisation.
